Diagnostic Overview
The Audible Parking Aid Is Inoperative
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
REFER to Parking Aid System Operation .
If a MyKey(R) restricted key is in the ignition cylinder, the parking aid menu is not available in the message center and cannot be deactivated.
Pinpoint Test
1. CHECK THE DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) FROM THE PAM (Parking Aid Module) SELF-TEST
1. Ignition ON.
2. Using a scan tool, perform the PAM (Parking Aid Module) self-test.
3. Check the PAM (Parking Aid Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from the self-test.
Are any PAM (Parking Aid Module) DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) recorded?
2. CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER FOR CORRECT OPERATION
1. While observing the message center, disable and enable the parking aid system.
Does the message center display PARK AID OFF when the parking aid system is disabled, and display PARK AID ON when the parking aid system is enabled?
3. CHECK FOR CORRECT REVERSE GEAR INPUT
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Select REVERSE.
3. Using a scan tool, view PAM (Parking Aid Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
4. Monitor the PAM (Parking Aid Module) TRANSGR PID (Parameter Identification).
Does the PID (Parameter Identification) indicate YES (transmission in reverse)?
4. CHECK PARKING AID SENSORS FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION
1. Select PARK.
2. Inspect the parking aid sensors for correct installation. Make sure the isolator rings are not rolled between the sensor and the bezel.
Are the parking aid sensors correctly installed?
5. CHECK PARKING AID SENSOR ISOLATOR RINGS
1. Inspect the parking aid sensor isolator rings for deformation and damage.
Are the parking aid sensor isolator rings OK?
6. CHECK THE PAM (Parking Aid Module) SPEAKER OUTPUT
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Select PARK.
3. Using a scan tool, view PAM (Parking Aid Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
4. Using a scan tool, command the PAM (Parking Aid Module) REAR_TONE PID (Parameter Identification) Active and then Inactive.
Does the PAM (Parking Aid Module) speaker sound when Active?
7. CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM (Parking Aid Module) OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect and inspect the PAM (Parking Aid Module) connector.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary
4. Reconnect the PAM (Parking Aid Module) connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
