Seat Backrest Cover

Removal

WARNING: Always carry or place a live air bag module with the air bag and deployment door/trim cover/tear seam pointed away from the body. Do not set a live air bag module down with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam face down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side air bags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTE: If a side air bag deployment took place, a new seat backrest foam pad, backrest cover, deployment chute and side air bag module and nuts must be installed. A new seat backrest frame should be installed if necessary.

NOTE: For parts identification and location, REFER to Seat - Exploded View, Front .

1. Remove the front seat. REFER to Seat .

2. Remove the head restraint guide sleeves. REFER to Head Restraint Guide Sleeve .

3. Detach the backrest cover from the cushion cover.





4. NOTE: Note wire harness routing for installation.
Disconnect and detach the electrical connectors and wire harnesses. Detach the backrest and cushion cover retainers and route out the wire harnesses.

Disengage the backrest cover lower J-clips and route the wire harnesses through the backrest cover holes.





6. NOTICE: Use care when separating the backrest cover from the hook-and-loop strip, or the hook-and-loop strip can be torn from the backrest foam pad.

Separate the backrest cover hook-and-loop strips from the backrest foam pad and position the backrest cover up to the first row of hog rings.

7. Remove the first row of hog rings.





8. Position the backrest cover up to the second row of hog rings and remove the hog rings.





9. Position the backrest cover up to the third row of hog rings and remove the hog rings.

10. From the rear of the backrest, disengage the backrest cover J-clip attached to the backrest frame wire.





Installation

1. Position the seat backrest cover inside out and install it onto the backrest foam pad. Install 3 hog rings on the wire running across the top of the backrest trim cover, attaching it to the backrest foam pad wire.

2. WARNING: If the seat side air bag module deployment chute is not correctly positioned, the seat side air bag may not deploy correctly. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the seat side air bag deploying incorrectly, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

WARNING: Inspect the seat side air bag module cavity in the seat backrest foam pad for any foreign material. If any foreign material is found, remove it. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTE: The seat side air bag module must have a clear exit path from the front of the deployment chute. Both deployment chute front edges must be positioned to lay flat when positioned between the backrest foam pad and backrest frame.

Check the position of the deployment chute.

1. Position both deployment chute front edges to lay flat, from top to bottom, between the backrest foam pad and backrest frame.

2. Do not allow the deployment chute front edges to fold over, at any point, between the backrest foam pad and backrest frame.






3. Fold the backrest trim cover back around the backrest foam pad and backrest frame.

1. Make sure both deployment chute front edges do not fold over.

4. Attach the hook-and-loop strips and engage the J-clip at the rear to the backrest frame wire.

5. Position the backrest cover downward, attach the hook-and-loop strips and install the 3 second row hog rings.

6. Position the backrest cover downward, attach the hook-and-loop strips and install the 3 first row hog rings.

7. Position the backrest cover downward and attach the hook-and-loop strips.

8. Route the wire harnesses through the backrest cover holes and engage the lower J-clips.

9. Route, connect and attach the electrical connectors and wire harnesses. Attach the backrest and cushion cover retainers to the seat track.



10. Attach the backrest cover to the cushion cover.

11. Install the head restraint guide sleeves. REFER to Head Restraint Guide Sleeve .

12. Install the front seat. REFER to Seat .
