Front Bumper: Service and Repair




Bumper Rust Prevention - Front, Chrome





1. If equipped remove the license plate bracket.

2. If equipped, remove the foglamp assembly.

3. Remove the front bumper. For additional information, refer to Bumper- Front .

4. If equipped, remove the center vent grille pin-type retainers and the center vent grille.

5. Clean excessive dirt from an area of 2'' (50 mm) around all 3 cutouts on the inside of the bumper.

6. NOTE: Use protective gloves when applying the Motorcraft Custom Bright Metal Cleaner.
Clean the red rust stains from the inside edges of the center vent and fog lamp openings with Motorcraft Custom Bright Metal Cleaner.


7. Apply masking tape around the center vent and the fog lamp openings on the outside chrome part of the front bumper allowing for a 1 inch overhang into the openings.





8. NOTE: Use protective gloves when applying the anti-corrosion coating.
Using a foam brush, paint the edge of the center vent and the fog lamp openings and at least 1'' (25 mm) around the inside of the front bumper with the Motorcraft Anti-Corrosion Coating.






9. Remove the masking tape from around the center vent and the fog lamp openings.

10. If equipped, install the center vent grille and the center vent grille pin-type retainers.

11. Install the front bumper. For additional information, refer to Bumper- Front .

12. If equipped, install the fog lamp assembly.

13. If equipped, install the license plate bracket.
