Pinpoint Test BC: DTC U0212:00

Normal Operation

- DTC U0212:00 (Lost Communication With Steering Column Control Module: No Sub-Type Information)- sets in continuous memory in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) if data messages received from the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for 5 seconds or longer. This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- SCCM (Steering Column Control Module)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST BC : DTC U0212:00

BC1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to BC2.
No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

BC2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Carry out the network test.

Does the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) pass the network test?

Yes
GO to BC3.
No
REFER to Information Bus.

BC3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded?

Yes
For DTC U3003:16, GO to Pinpoint Test BD. Pinpoint Test BD: DTC U3003:16

For DTC U3003:17, GO to Pinpoint Test BE. Pinpoint Test BE: DTC U3003:17
No
GO to BC4.

BC4 RECHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs

- Clear the DTCs.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Repeat the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0212:00 still present?

Yes
GO to BC5.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

BC5 CHECK FOR DTC U0212:87 SET IN OTHER MODULES

- Clear all DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.

- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0212:87 set in the Body Control Module (BCM)
?

Yes
INSTALL a new SCCM (Steering Column Control Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
