Pinpoint Test I: DTC U0140:87

Normal Operation

- DTC U0140:87 (Lost Communication With Body Control Module: Missing Message)- This DTC is set by the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) module in continuous memory if data messages received from the BCM (Body Control Module) are missing.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:



- Communication network concern

- TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module

- BCM (Body Control Module)

PINPOINT TEST I : DTC U0140:87

I1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to I2.
No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

I2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Ignition ON.

- Using a scan tool, carry out the Network Test.

Do both the BCM (Body Control Module) and the TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module pass the Network Test?

Yes
GO to I3.
No
If either module does not pass the Network Test, REFER to Information Bus to diagnose the BCM (Body Control Module) does not respond to the scan tool or the TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module does not respond to the scan tool.

I3 CHECK THE TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) MODULE CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes)

- Using a scan tool, carry out the TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module self-test.

- Using a scan tool, clear the TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Ignition ON.

- Using a scan tool, carry out the TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module self-test.

Is DTC U0140:87 retrieved again?

Yes
GO to I4.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

I4 CHECK FOR DTCs IN THE BCM (Body Control Module)

- Using a scan tool, carry out the BCM (Body Control Module) self-test.

Is DTC U3003:16 or U3003:17 present?

Yes
TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module DTC U0140:87 may have been set due to a voltage issue in the BCM (Body Control Module). REFER to the BCM (Body Control Module) DTC Chart in Body Control Systems.
No
GO to I5.

I5 CHECK FOR DTC U0140, U0140:00, OR U0140:87 SET IN OTHER MODULES

- Clear the CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from all modules.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Using a scan tool, retrieve the CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from all modules.

Is DTC U0140, U0140:00, or U0140:87 set in more than one module?

Yes
INSTALL a new BCM (Body Control Module). CLEAR all continuous DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
INSTALL a new TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor) module. REFER to Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.
