Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair
Transmission Range (TR) Sensor
Removal
1. Disconnect the selector lever cable end from the manual control lever.
2. Move the manual control lever counterclockwise to the LOW position.
3. Remove the transmission fluid pan. For additional information, refer to Transmission Fluid Pan Transmission Fluid Pan.
4. Disconnect the Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) sensor electrical connector and the Transmission Range (TR) sensor electrical connector and position the transmission wiring harness retainer aside.
5. NOTICE: Do not bend the manual valve rod clip when removing the manual valve rod. If the manual valve rod clip is bent back to remove the manual valve rod instead of sliding it off, the manual valve rod clip will become permanently distorted causing total loss of transmission control or transmission failure. If the manual valve rod clip is bent, install a new manual valve rod clip.
Remove the manual valve rod. Pull the manual valve rod clip tab out of the TR (Transmission Range) sensor, slide the manual valve rod clip off of the manual valve rod and remove the manual valve rod from the TR (Transmission Range) sensor and the manual valve.

6. Using a punch, remove and discard the manual shaft-to-TR (Transmission Range) sensor roll pin.
7. Loosen the detent spring bolt and the detent spring enough to remove the tension from the TR (Transmission Range) sensor.
8. Slide the manual shaft out of the TR (Transmission Range) sensor and remove the TR (Transmission Range) sensor.

9. Rotate the TR (Transmission Range) sensor and remove the park pawl actuator rod from the TR (Transmission Range) sensor.
Installation
1. Install the park pawl actuator rod in the TR (Transmission Range) sensor.
2. Position the TR (Transmission Range) sensor and park pawl actuator rod in the transmission case. Push the park pawl up and install the park pawl actuator rod. Align the TR (Transmission Range) sensor with the detent spring pin and position the TR (Transmission Range) sensor in place.

4. Using a suitable tool, install a new manual shaft-to-TR (Transmission Range) sensor roll pin.
5. Tighten the TR (Transmission Range) sensor detent spring bolt.
- Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
6. Position the wiring harness in place and connect the TFT (Transmission Fluid Temperature) sensor electrical connector and the TR (Transmission Range) sensor electrical connector.
7. NOTICE: Do not bend the manual valve rod clip when installing the manual valve rod. If the manual valve rod clip is bent back to install the manual valve rod instead of sliding it off, the manual valve rod clip will become permanently distorted causing total loss of transmission control or transmission failure. If the manual valve rod clip is bent, install a new manual valve rod clip.
Install the manual valve rod in the manual valve and the TR (Transmission Range) sensor and move the manual valve rod clip over the manual valve rod until the manual valve rod clip tab goes through the TR (Transmission Range) sensor to hold the manual valve rod in place.
