Pinpoint Test AE: DTC U0212:00

Normal Operation

- DTC U0212:00 (Lost Communication With Steering Column Control Module: No Sub Type Information)- a continuous memory DTC set by the ABS module if it does not receive steering angle information or other sensor messages from the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) for 5 seconds or longer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern

- SCCM (Steering Column Control Module)

- ABS module

PINPOINT TEST AE : DTC U0212:00

AE1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AE2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AE2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Connect the scan tool.

- Using a scan tool, carry out the Network Test.

Does the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) pass the Network Test?

Yes
GO to AE3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

AE3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE ABS MODULE SELF-TESTS

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- ABS Module.

Is DTC B11E8:16 or DTC B11E8:17 recorded?

Yes
For DTC B11E8:16, GO to Pinpoint Test P. Pinpoint Test P: DTC B11E8:16

For DTC B11E8:17, GO to Pinpoint Test Q. Pinpoint Test Q: DTC B11E8:17
No
GO to AE4.

AE4 RECHECK THE ABS MODULE DTCs

- Using a scan tool, clear the ABS module DTCs.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- ABS Module.

Is DTC U0212:00 still present?

Yes
GO to AE5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

AE5 CHECK FOR DTC U0212:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES

- Using a scan tool, clear all CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- All CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes).

Is DTC U0212:00 set in the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) ?

Yes
INSTALL a new SCCM (Steering Column Control Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the ABS module self-test.

No
INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module . TEST the system for normal operation.
