Pinpoint Test AO: The Traction Control Off Message Center Indicator Is Never/Always On (Engine Only Traction Control (EOTC) )
Normal Operation
The traction control switch is hardwired to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). When the traction control switch is pressed, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sends a message to the PCM module over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus indicating that the traction control switch has been pressed. The PCM either disables or enables the traction control system and sends a traction control off message center indicator request back to the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) to turn on or off the traction control off message center indicator based upon the system state.
If the traction control disabled indicator request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the traction control off message center indicator remains in the last indication state (on or off) based upon the last known good message received. If the traction control off message center indicator request message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U0100:00 in continuous memory and defaults the traction control off message center indicator off.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Traction control cannot be disabled
- PCM
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
PINPOINT TEST AO : THE TRACTION CONTROL OFF MESSAGE CENTER INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON (EOTC (Engine Only Traction Control) ONLY)
AO1 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR
- Close all doors then open the LH front door.
- Ignition ON.
- NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warning indicators. Allow the displays to cycle through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning indicator is active.
Observe the message center.
Is the door ajar message center telltale warning indicator active?
Yes
GO to AO2.
No
GO to Pinpoint Test AN. Pinpoint Test AN: The Door Ajar Message Center Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On
AO2 CHECK THE TRACTION CONTROL INPUT TO THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DataLogger.
- Select the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) traction control switch PID (STAB_CTRL_SW).
- Monitor the traction control PID while pressing and releasing the traction control disable switch.
Does the traction control PID read RELEASED when the button is released and DEPRESSED when the button is pressed?
Yes
GO to AO3.
No
To diagnose the traction control system cannot be disabled, REFER to Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems.
AO3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
For DTC U0100:00, GO to Pinpoint Test BA. Pinpoint Test BA: DTC U0100:00
For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes
No
GO to AO4.
AO4 RETRIEVE AND RECORD THE DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO (Key ON Engine OFF) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded PCM DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
Are any PCM DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information.
No
INSTALL a new PCM. TEST the system for normal operation.
