Fuel Tank - Aft-of-Axle

Removal and Installation

All vehicles

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

2. Release the fuel system pressure.

3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

4. Drain the fuel from the fuel tank.

5. Loosen the 2 hose clamps and disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe and fuel tank filler pipe vent hose from the fuel tank.

Gasoline engines

6. Disconnect the fuel supply tube-to-Fuel Pump (FP) module quick connect coupling.

7. Disconnect the fuel vapor tube-to-fuel tank grade vent valve quick connect coupling.

8. Disconnect the FP (Fuel Pump) module electrical connectors.

Diesel engine

9. Disconnect the fuel supply tube-to-fuel level sensor quick connect coupling.

10. Disconnect the fuel return tube-to-fuel level sensor quick connect coupling.

11. Disconnect the fuel level sensor electrical connector.

All vehicles

12. Place a jack under the fuel tank shield.

13. Remove the 4 bolts from the fuel tank shield.
- To install, tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).


14. Lower the fuel tank.

15. Remove the 2 nuts from the fuel tank straps and remove the fuel tank straps.
- To install, tighten to 72 Nm (53 lb-ft).


16. Remove the fuel tank from the fuel tank shield.

17. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
