Principles of Operation
NOTE: This section only applies to vehicles without one-touch up windows. Vehicles equipped with one-touch up windows can be identified by the presence an AUTO position on the RH front window control switch. For vehicles equipped with one-touch up windows, REFER to Glass, Frames and Mechanisms - With Window One-Touch Up.
Delayed Accessory Power
The Body Control Module (BCM) activates the accessory delay relay whenever the ignition switch is in the RUN or the ACC position, or when the ignition switch is changed from RUN or ACC to the OFF/LOCK position and the LH and RH front doors are closed. When energized, the accessory delay relay supplies voltage to the power window system.
The Body Control Module (BCM) will deactivate the delayed accessory feature when:
- the LH or RH front door is ajar and the ignition switch is in the OFF/LOCK or KEY-OUT position.
- ten minutes have elapsed since the ignition switch was changed from ACC or RUN to the OFF/LOCK position.
Manual Mode
When the LH front window control switch is pressed to the 1st detent, the LH front window moves down until one of the following conditions are met:
- The LH front window control switch is released from the 1st detent position.
- The LH front window control switch is pushed to the 2nd detent, causing the LF window to enter one-touch down mode.
One-Touch Down Mode
The one-touch down feature is activated when the LH window control switch for the LH window is pressed to the 2nd detent.
One-touch down mode is terminated when any of the following conditions are met:
- The LH window control switch is pulled to the UP position
- The LH window control switch is released (off position) and then pressed to the manual DOWN position (1st detent) or one-touch DOWN position (2nd detent)
- The accessory delay relay is inactive
The one-touch down feature is integral to the LH front window control switch.
Rear Window Defrost
When the rear window defrost switch (integral to the HVAC module) is pressed and the engine is running, the HVAC module activates the rear window defrost relay located in the Battery Junction Box (BJB). When the rear window defrost relay is active, the heated mirror and rear window defrost grids are energized.
Remote Start Climate Operation (if equipped)
When the vehicle is started using the remote start feature and the outside temperature is less than 0°C (32°F), the rear window defrost and heated mirrors will be activated. No climate control adjustments are recognized during remote start operation. Once the ignition is cycled to the ON position, the climate control system returns to the previous settings (last ignition-ON cycle) and adjustments can be made normally. If the previous setting was off, the climate control turns off. For additional information about remote start operation, refer to Starting Systems (gasoline) or Starting Systems (diesel) or the Owner's Literature.
