Pinpoint Test C: The DC/AC Inverter Does Not Operate Correctly - The AC Power Point Turns Off After 13 Minutes
Normal Operation
The DC/AC inverter receives a signal from the Body Control Module (BCM) over the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) whenever the engine is running. If the DC/AC inverter does not receive this message for 13 minutes, the inverter will stop supplying 110V to the power outlet and the green LED indicator will flash. The system can be reset by cycling the ignition from ON to OFF and back to ON, however the system will only operate for another 13 minutes unless the signal is received from the BCM (Body Control Module) that the engine is running.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- DC/AC inverter
- BCM (Body Control Module)
PINPOINT TEST C : THE DC/AC INVERTER DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - THE AC POWER POINT TURNS OFF AFTER 13 MINUTES
NOTICE: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
C1 VERIFY THE COMPASS FUNCTION
- Connect the scan tool.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- BCM (Body Control Module).
- Record any BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs retrieved.
Are U0100:87 or U0401:00 present in the BCM (Body Control Module) ?
Yes
REFER to Body Control Systems to diagnose the BCM (Body Control Module).
No
GO to C2.
C2 VERIFY THE COMPASS FUNCTION
- Verify that the compass functions correctly.
Does the compass function correctly?
Yes
GO to C3.
No
REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators to diagnose the compass.
C3 CHECK THE LIN (Local Interconnect Network) COMMUNICATION CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280B.
- Disconnect: DC/AC Inverter C3501A.
- Measure the resistance between BCM (Body Control Module) C2280B-52, circuit VDN01 (BU/WH), harness side and DC/AC inverter C3501A-5, circuit VDN01 (BU/WH), harness side.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
INSTALL a new DC/AC inverter. REFER to Direct Current/Alternating Current (DC/AC) Inverter . TEST the system for normal operation.
If the AC power point still turns off after 13 minutes when the engine is running, INSTALL a new BCM (Body Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit VDN01 (BU/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
