Pinpoint Test C: The Wipers Do Not Operate Correctly in the Low/High/Intermittent Mode(s)
Normal Operation
The front wiper relay (located in the Battery Junction Box (BJB) ) is activated whenever the ignition is in the ON position. The front wiper relay provides power to the windshield wiper motor. The multifunction switch is mounted to the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM). The SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) commands the windshield wiper motor to activate the appropriate wash, low, high and intermittent modes through a private Local Interconnect Network (LIN).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Multifunction switch
- SCCM (Steering Column Control Module)
- Windshield wiper motor
PINPOINT TEST C : THE WIPERS DO NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY IN THE LOW/HIGH/INTERMITTENT MODE(S)
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
C1 CHECK FOR SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) DTCs
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test- SCCM (Steering Column Control Module).
- Check for SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) DTCs.
Are any SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) DTCs present?
Yes
REFER to the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) DTC Chart for diagnosis. Wiper and Washer Systems
No
GO to C2.
C2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH PIDs
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: DataLogger- SCCM (Steering Column Control Module).
- While cycling through all the multifunction switch positions, verify the status of each SCCM (Steering Column Control Module) PID changes state:
- F_WIP_INT_D1
- F_WIP_INT_D2
- F_WIP_INT_D3
- F_WIP_INT_D4
- F_WIP_INT_D5
- F_WIP_SLO_SW
- F_WIPE_FAST_SW
- F_WASH_SW
- WIPE_SINGLE
Do all of the PIDs change state when the multifunction switch is cycled through all wiper positions?
Yes
GO to C3.
No
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM (Steering Column Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.
C3 CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor C125.
- Check the windshield wiper motor connector C125 for the following conditions:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the windshield wiper motor connector C125 and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
