Pinpoint Test Q: An Individual Audio Front Control Module (ACM) Touchscreen Display/Function Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly - Vehicles With Navigation

Normal Operation

The Audio Front Control Module (ACM) receives inputs via the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) from the following modules:

- Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) : SYNC(R) system information (if equipped)

- HVAC module: climate control system information

If the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) loses the signal from any of these modules, only that specific display is inoperative.

Because the satellite radio receiver is internal to the ACM (Audio Front Control Module), all satellite radio information on the display is directly generated by the ACM (Audio Front Control Module).

The compass heading is derived from the Global Positioning System (GPS) antenna. If there is a concern with the compass display, there should also be a concern with the GPS (Global Positioning System) signal. GO to Pinpoint Test H. Pinpoint Test H: No Global Positioning System (GPS) Antenna Signal

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern

- ACM (Audio Front Control Module)

PINPOINT TEST Q : AN INDIVIDUAL ACM (Audio Front Control Module) TOUCHSCREEN DISPLAY/FUNCTION IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - VEHICLES WITH NAVIGATION

Q1 OBSERVE THE ACM (Audio Front Control Module) DISPLAY

- Turn the audio system on and observe the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) screen.

Is the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) display completely inoperative?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test P. Pinpoint Test P: The Audio Front Control Module (ACM) Does Not Respond To Touchscreen Or Button Presses
No
GO to Q2.

Q2 CHECK THE ACM (Audio Front Control Module) DISPLAY SEGMENTS

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Audio Display Test.

- Follow the scan tool instructions to carry out the Audio Display Test.

Do all of the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) segments illuminate?

Yes
GO to Q3.

No
GO to Q5.

Q3 OBSERVE THE SPECIFIC INOPERATIVE DISPLAY

- Observe the inoperative ACM (Audio Front Control Module) display while carrying out the indicated diagnostic method as follows:

Inoperative Display Diagnostic Method Expected Results Audio system Turn the audio system on, press the RADIO button and adjust the audio settings using the touchscreen. The ACM (Audio Front Control Module) changes the setting and updates the display to show the change in audio setting. SYNC(R) system (if equipped) Turn the audio system on, press the PHONE button and attempt several functions using the touchscreen. The ACM (Audio Front Control Module) display shows information relating to the phone. Climate control system Turn the climate control system on, adjust the fan to high speed and set the temperature to various settings. The ACM (Audio Front Control Module) display updates to show the change in climate control setting.

Does the inoperative display confirm the expected results?

Yes
The system is operating correctly at this time. INFORM the customer on the correct operation of the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) displays.

No
GO to Q4.

Q4 CHECK FOR LOST COMMUNICATION DTCs

- Ignition ON.

- Clear continuous DTCs from all modules.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Wait at least 10 seconds.

- Retrieve all continuous DTCs (from all modules).

Is DTC U0164, U0184 or U0197 (if equipped with the SYNC(R) system) present in any module?

Yes
REFER to DTC Charts. Information and Entertainment System
No
GO to Q5.

Q5 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM (Audio Front Control Module) OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect all the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) connectors.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect all the ACM (Audio Front Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.

- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new ACM (Audio Front Control Module). REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM) . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
