Pinpoint Test H: Easy Exit/Easy Entry is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly
Normal Operation
The Driver Seat Module (DSM) receives a key out ignition status over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication network from the Body Control Module (BCM) and moves the driver seat rearward about 51 mm (2 in).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Easy entry/exit feature is not enabled
- Missing status information- Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus messages:
- ignition status
- gear selector position
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Key-in-ignition warning switch
- DSM (Driver Seat Module)
PINPOINT TEST H : EASY EXIT/EASY ENTRY IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
NOTE: Verify the battery condition before diagnosing the memory seat system. Poor battery condition may interfere with memory seat operation, even if vehicle starting is possible.
NOTE: If a new DSM (Driver Seat Module) has been installed, reset all seat soft stops. If a new seat track or recline motor has been installed, only reset the soft stops for that component being installed new. To reset the soft stops, refer to Principles of Operation. Principles of Operation
NOTE: The transmission gear selector must be in PARK for the easy entry/exit feature to function.
NOTE: Make sure all memory seat DTC and symptom based faults are corrected before proceeding with easy entry/exit diagnosis. Verify the PID(s) states agree with the ignition and transmission gear selector in all positions before proceeding with easy entry/exit diagnosis.
H1 CHECK FOR SEAT OPERATION AND RETRIEVE DTCs
- Ignition ON.
- Check the message center to verify the easy entry/exit feature is turned on.
- The easy entry/exit feature can be enabled/disabled using a scan tool in module programming. Refer to the Owner's Literature or Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators for information on the message center.
- Adjust the seat fully forward and rearward to verify seat operation.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- DSM (Driver Seat Module).
Are any DSM (Driver Seat Module) DTCs retrieved?
Yes
REFER to the Driver Seat Module (DSM) DTC Chart. Seats
No
If OFF, turn the easy entry/exit feature ON with the message center. REFER to the Owner's Literature or Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators. TEST the system for normal operation. If OK, INSTRUCT the customer on correct system operation.
If the seat does not move horizontally from the seat control switch, GO to Pinpoint Test E. Pinpoint Test E: The Power Seat Does Not Move Horizontally/Vertically/Recline - Driver, With Memory
Otherwise, GO to H2.
H2 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SELECTOR TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) PID STATES
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: DataLogger- TCM (Transmission Control Module) (Diesel) or PCM (Gasoline).
- Operate the transmission gear selector in all positions while monitoring the Transmission Control Module (TCM) (diesel) or PCM (gasoline) TR PID states.
Does the PID state agree with the selected gear selector positions?
Yes
GO to H3.
No
To diagnose a Transmission Range (TR) sensor concern, REFER to Computers and Control Systems.
H3 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH STATE (IGN_SW_STATE) PID
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: DataLogger- BCM (Body Control Module).
- Cycle the ignition in all positions while monitoring the Body Control Module (BCM) IGN_SW_STATE PID.
Does the PID agree with key positions in and out of the ignition switch?
Yes
INSTALL a new DSM (Driver Seat Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
To diagnose the key-in-ignition warning switch fault, REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
