Seat - Front





NOTE: Refer to the installation steps for tightening sequence and torque specification.

NOTE: Passenger seat shown, driver seat similar.









Removal

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners, adaptive load limiting retractors, safety belt inflators, or probe the electrical connectors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners, adaptive load limiting retractors, or safety belt inflators, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON.

NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

1. WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.

For passenger seat, turn the ignition OFF and wait at least one minute.


2. Pull the seat front inboard and outboard covers forward and remove.

3. For passenger seat, remove the manual recliner handle.
1. At the rear outboard side of the seat, pull the flap out to access the recliner handle clip.

2. Locate the clip between the cushion and side shield and pull the clip off.

3. Slide the recliner handle off the shaft.






4. For passenger seat, remove the cushion side shield cover.
- Pull out to disengage the retainers.

- Pull the retainer out and around the cushion side shield to disengage.

- Slide the cushion side shield cover rearward and remove.






5. For driver seat, carefully pull out to disengage the retainers and remove the cushion side shield cover.

6. Position the seat.
- Position the seat forward enough to access the seat rear mounting bolts.

- Position the seat all the way down to access the safety belt anchor bolt.


7. Separate the safety belt anchor from the seat.
- For driver seat, remove the safety belt anchor bolt and separate the safety belt anchor from the seat.

- For passenger seat, disconnect the Belt Tension Sensor (BTS) electrical connector, remove the safety belt anchor bolt and separate the safety belt anchor from the seat.


8. Position the front seat all the way up.
- Make sure the seat rear mounting bolts are still accessible.


9. Depower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of Restraints and Safety Systems &/or Air Bag Systems.

10. Remove the 2 seat front mounting bolts.

11. Remove the 2 rear mounting bolts.

12. Disconnect the seat electrical connector(s) and detach the wire harness pin-type retainer.
- Release the lever lock and pivot the lever back.


13. WARNING: Use care when handling the front passenger seat and track assembly. Dropping the assembly, placing excessive weight on or sitting on a front passenger seat that is not secured in the vehicle may result in damaged seat components. Failure to follow these instructions may result in incorrect operation of the occupant classification system (OCS) and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

NOTICE: Use care when handling the driver seat and track assembly. Dropping the assembly or sitting on a seat not secured in the vehicle may result in damaged components.

Remove the front seat.


Installation

All seats

1. Position the seat in the vehicle.

2. Connect the under seat electrical connector(s) and attach the wire harness pin-type retainer.

3. Insert the 2 seat track rear locator pins into the Side Protection and Cabin Enhancement (SPACE(R)) tube.

4. WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

Connect the battery ground cable.

5. Position the seat.
- Position the seat forward enough to access the seat rear mounting bolts.

- Position the seat all the way down to access the safety belt anchor bolt.


6. Install the seat mounting bolts in the following sequence:
1. Install the 2 rear mounting bolts.
- Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).

2. Install the 2 front mounting bolts.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).

7. Install the safety belt anchor bolt.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

- For passenger seat, connect the BTS (Belt Tension Sensor) electrical connector.


8. Install the cushion side shield cover.

9. If equipped, install the manual recliner handle in the following sequence.
1. Install the clip onto the manual recliner handle.

2. Align the splines of the manual recliner handle to the manual recliner shaft.

3. Push the manual recliner handle onto the manual recliner shaft, seating the clip.


10. For passenger seat, insert the flap back into the cushion side shield.

11. Install the front inboard and outboard covers.

12. WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

Disconnect the battery ground cable.


13. Repower the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System).

If a passenger seat has been serviced, do not prove out the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) at this time. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of Restraints and Safety Systems &/or Air Bag Systems.

14. Carry out the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) System Reset. For additional information, refer to the General Procedures portion of Restraints and Safety Systems &/or Air Bag Systems.
