Seat Backrest Cover - With Fold Flat

Removal

WARNING: Always carry or place a live air bag module with the air bag and deployment door/trim cover/tear seam pointed away from the body. Do not set a live air bag module down with the deployment door/trim cover/tear seam face down. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side air bags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

All seats

1. Remove the front passenger seat. For additional information, refer to Seat- Front Seat - Front.

2. If not equipped with a DVD player, remove the 2 head restraint guides sleeves. For additional information, refer to Head Restraint Guide Sleeve .

3. Remove the inboard recliner lower cover.
1. Remove the screw at the back of the inboard recliner lower cover.

2. Remove the screw at the side of the inboard recliner lower cover.

3. Pull out at the rear of the inboard recliner lower cover to release the retainers and remove.






4. Remove the inboard recliner upper cover.
1. Pull at the front and release the clip.

2. Rotate the inboard recliner upper cover clockwise and remove.






5. Separate the fold-flat cable retainer, cover and DVD player wire harness pin-type retainers (if equipped) from the inboard recliner.





6. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar handle.
1. Push the cushion cover and foam pad back and locate the manual lumbar handle clip under the cushion side shield.

2. Remove the clip and slide the manual lumbar handle off the shaft.






7. NOTE: For retainer clarity, inside of cushion side shield shown.

Remove the cushion side shield.

1. Remove the screw at the back of the cushion side shield.

2. Remove the screw at the side of the cushion side shield.

3. Remove the screw at the front of the cushion side shield.

4. Pull out on the cushion side shield to release the clips and separate.
- If equipped, disconnect the seat control switch.






8. Remove the outboard recliner upper cover.
1. Pull at the front and release the clip.

2. Pivot the top of the outboard recliner upper cover back and remove.
- Pull the fold-flat release strap out through the opening.






9. Using the strap on the outboard recliner, fold the backrest down to the fold-flat position.

10. Separate the wire harness and cable retainers.
1. Remove the pin-type retainer, release all the outboard cushion cover J-clips and position the cushion cover flap up.

2. If equipped, separate the manual lumbar cable retainers.

3. If equipped, pull the manual lumbar cable cover out of the adjuster.

4. Separate the side air bag module wire harness pin-type retainers.
- Route the side air bag module wire harness out from under the seat.

5. Separate the outboard fold-flat cable retainer and cover from the outboard recliner.






11. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar cable from the adjuster in the following sequence.
- Pull the lumbar cable cover out of the adjuster.

- Remove the cable end from the adjuster.






Seats with a DVD player

12. Detach the cushion cover J-clip and pin-type retainer.





13. Detach the DVD player electrical connector and wire harness retainers.





14. Detach the DVD player wire harness retainers.





15. Detach the retainers and route out the DVD player wire harness.





All seats

16. Seats with power seat track, disconnect electrical connectors and separate pin-type retainers from under the seat.
1. Separate the connector and wire harness retainers.

2. Slide the side air bag electrical connector locking clip back.

3. Push the tab in and disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.

4. Disconnect the backrest feed electrical connector.






17. Seats with manual seat track, disconnect the electrical connector and separate pin-type retainers from under the seat.
1. Separate the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers.

2. Slide the side air bag electrical connector locking clip back.

3. Push the tab in and disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.






18. Route the wire harness out from under the seat.

19. Separate the backrest cover lower J-clips.

20. Release the backrest cover clips and open the zippers.





21. If equipped with a DVD player, remove the 2 head restraint guides sleeves. For additional information, refer to Head Restraint Guide Sleeve .

22. Position the backrest cover aside and remove the 4 recliner-to-backrest frame bolts (2 shown).
- Remove the backrest.






23. Invert the backrest cover up and remove the first row of hog rings.





24. Invert the backrest cover up to expose the side air bag module deployment chute.
- Feed the fold-flat cable, lumbar cable (if equipped) and backrest wire harness (if equipped) through the side openings of the backrest cover.


25. Squeeze the ends of the deployment chute clips together and open the deployment chute.





26. Invert the backrest cover up and remove the second row of hog rings.





27. From the rear of the backrest, separate the backrest cover J-clip attached to the backrest frame wire.





28. Invert the backrest cover up and pull the deployment chute through the backrest foam pad.

29. Remove the backrest cover.

Installation

WARNING: Inspect the seat side air bag module cavity in the seat backrest foam pad for any foreign material. If any foreign material is found, remove it. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

WARNING: Check the seat side air bag deployment chute for damage. The deployment chute must not be repaired. If there is any damage to the deployment chute, a new seat back trim cover and deployment chute must be installed as a unit. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

All seats

1. With the backrest cover inside out, position the backrest cover to the backrest foam pad and frame assembly.
- Align the head restraint holes in the backrest cover to the holes in the backrest foam pad and frame.


2. Roll the backrest cover down and position the deployment chute through the backrest foam pad opening.





3. WARNING: If the seat side air bag module deployment chute is not correctly positioned, the seat side air bag may not deploy correctly. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the seat side air bag deploying incorrectly, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.

Position the deployment chute around the side air bag module.
1. Insert the outboard side of the side air bag deployment chute between the backrest foam pad and the side air bag module, pulling it around the outboard side of the backrest frame.

2. Insert the inboard side of the side air bag deployment chute between the backrest foam pad and the backrest frame, pulling it around the inboard side of the backrest frame.






4. Engage the side air bag deployment chute retaining clips and snap them together.
- The side air bag deployment chute must encircle the side air bag module, going completely around the side air bag module and the side of the backrest frame.

- Align the side air bag deployment chute to the side air bag module, making sure it is centered around the side air bag module.






5. From the rear of the backrest, attach the backrest cover J-clip to the backrest frame wire.





6. Roll the backrest cover down and install the 3 second row hog rings.





7. Roll the backrest cover down and install the 3 first row hog rings.





8. If equipped with a DVD player, install the 2 head restraint guides sleeves. For additional information, refer to Head Restraint Guide Sleeve .

9. Roll the backrest cover all the way down.

10. Route the wire harness and cables out through the sides of the backrest cover.

11. Position the backrest assembly and install the 2 outboard recliner-to-backrest frame bolts finger-tight.
- Make sure the fold-flat cable, lumbar cable (if equipped) and backrest feed wire harness (if equipped) are routed out through the backrest cover before installing the bolts.






12. Position the backrest assembly and install the 2 inboard recliner-to-backrest frame bolts finger-tight.
- Make sure the fold-flat cable and DVD wire harness (if equipped) are routed out through the backrest cover before installing the inboard recliner.






13. Install the 4 recliner-to-backrest frame bolts.
- Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).


14. Attach the fold-flat cable retainer, cover and DVD player wire harness pin-type retainers (if equipped) to the inboard recliner.





15. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable into the adjuster.

16. Route and attach the wire harness and cable retainers in the following sequence.
1. Attach the outboard fold-flat cable and cover to the recliner.

2. Route and attach the side air bag module wire harness pin-type retainers.

3. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable cover into the adjuster.

4. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable retainers.


17. NOTE: Manual track shown, power track similar.

Route the side air bag module wire harness under the seat.






18. Position the cushion cover flap back around the side of the seat, attach all the outboard cushion cover J-clips and install the pin-type retainer.

19. Seats with manual seat track, connect the electrical connector and attach the pin-type retainers under the seat. For correct passenger seat wire harness routing, refer to Seat Wire Harness Routing Seat Wire Harness Routing.
1. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip to the lock position.

2. Route the wire harness and attach the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers.






20. Seats with power seat track, connect electrical connectors and attach the pin-type retainers under the seat. For correct passenger seat wire harness routing, refer to Seat Wire Harness Routing Seat Wire Harness Routing.
1. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip to the lock position.

2. Connect the backrest feed electrical connector.

3. Route the wire harness and attach the connectors and wire harness retainers.






21. Close the zippers and attach the backrest cover retainers.





Seats with a DVD player

22. Route the DVD player wire harness and attach the retainers. For correct passenger seat wire harness routing, refer to Seat Wire Harness Routing Seat Wire Harness Routing.





23. Route and attach the DVD player wire harness and electrical connector retainers.





24. Route and attach the DVD player wire harness retainers.





25. NOTICE: The DVD player wire harness must be routed under the cushion cover and above the cushion cover pin-type retainer or the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) system will not operate correctly.

Attach the cushion cover J-clip and install the cushion cover pin-type retainers.






All seats

26. Install the inboard recliner upper cover in the following sequence.
1. Align the inboard recliner upper cover pocket to the recliner bracket.

2. Pivot the top of the inboard recliner upper cover forward and attach the pocket to the bracket.

3. Push in at the front and seat the clip.


27. Install the inboard recliner lower cover in the following sequence.
1. Align the inboard recliner lower cover to the inner cover and push in, seating the rear clips.

2. Install the screw at the side of the inboard recliner lower cover.

3. Install the screw at the back of the inboard recliner lower cover.


28. Install the outboard recliner upper cover in the following sequence.
1. Position the fold-flat release strap through the opening.

2. Align the outboard recliner upper cover pocket to the recliner bracket.

3. Pivot the top of the outboard recliner upper cover forward and attach the pocket to the bracket.

4. Push in at the front and seat the clip.


29. Install the cushion side shield in the following sequence.
1. Return all retaining clips back to the cushion side shield before attaching to the seat.

2. If equipped, connect the seat control switch.

3. Align the cushion side shield clips to the seat and push in, seating the clips.

4. Install the screw at the back of the cushion side shield.

5. Install the screw at the side of the cushion side shield.

6. Install the screw at the front of the cushion side shield.


30. If equipped, install the manual lumbar handle in the following sequence.
1. Install the clip onto the manual lumbar handle.

2. Align the splines of the manual lumbar handle to the manual lumbar shaft.

3. Push the manual lumbar handle onto the manual lumbar shaft, seating the clip.


31. If not equipped with a DVD player, install the 2 head restraint guides sleeves. For additional information, refer to Head Restraint Guide Sleeve .

32. Install the front passenger seat. For additional information, refer to Seat- Front Seat - Front.
