Pinpoint Test H: One Or More Switch Illumination is Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Set 71, Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information. Electrical Diagrams

Normal Operation

Based on input from the instrument panel dimmer switch, the Smart Junction Box (SJB) sends a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) voltage to the dimmable components.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Ambient lighting switch

- Clock

- Center stack switch assembly

- Floor shifter

- Headlamp switch

- Message center switch

- Power liftgate switch

- Liftgate release switch

- Auxiliary climate control assembly

PINPOINT TEST H : ONE OR MORE SWITCH ILLUMINATION IS INOPERATIVE

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

H1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE ILLUMINATED COMPONENT

NOTE: If the headlamp switch illumination is the inoperative source, unplug the headlamp switch connector to measure the illumination circuit voltage. Unplugging the connector causes the SJB (Smart Junction Box) to turn the exterior lights on by default for 10 minutes, so it is unnecessary to turn on the headlamp switch.

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: Inoperative Illuminated Component.

- Place the headlamp switch to the PARKING LAMPS ON position.

- Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.

- Measure the voltage between the inoperative illuminated component, harness side and ground as follows:

Component Connector-Pin Circuit Power liftgate switch C4216-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Liftgate release switch C2269-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Clock C2016-2 VLN04 (VT/GY) Center stack switch assembly C2114-6 VLN04 (VT/GY) Message center switch C269-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Floor shifter C3245-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Headlamp switch C205-1 VLN04 (VT/GY) Ambient lighting switch C3348-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Auxiliary climate control assembly C3198-18 VLN04 (VT/GY)

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
TURN the headlamp switch off. GO to H2.

No
REPAIR circuit VLN04 (VT/GY) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

H2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE ILLUMINATED COMPONENT USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND

- Measure the voltage between the inoperative illuminated component, harness side as follows:

Component Connector-Pin/ Circuit Connector-Pin/ Circuit Power liftgate switch C4216-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) C4216-2 GD149 (BK/GY) Liftgate release switch C2269-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) C2269-2 GD114 (BK/BU) Clock C2016-2 VLN04 (VT/GY) C2016-5 GD114 (BK/BU) Center stack switch assembly C2114-6 VLN04 (VT/GY) C2114-1 GD114 (BK/BU) Message center switch C269-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) C269-6 GD114 (BK/BU) Floor shifter C3245-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) C3245-4 GD116 (BK/VT) Headlamp switch C205-1 VLN04 (VT/GY) C205-8 GD114 (BK/BU) Ambient lighting switch C3348-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) C3348-4 GD908 (BK) Auxiliary climate control assembly C3198-18 VLN04 (VT/GY) C3198-10 GD116 (BK/VT)

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new component in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the ground circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
