Steering Column Switches

Pinpoint Test C: No Power in RUN

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Set 13, Power Distribution/SJB for schematic and connector information. Electrical Diagrams

Normal Operation

When the ignition switch is in the RUN position, voltage is provided to Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 37 (10A) along circuit CDC34 (WH/OG). Voltage is also sent to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) microprocessor and the SJB (Smart Junction Box) run/start bus along circuit CDC34 (WH/OG).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Ignition switch

- SJB (Smart Junction Box)

PINPOINT TEST C : NO POWER IN RUN

NOTICE: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.

C1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE BJB (Battery Junction Box) AND SJB (Smart Junction Box)

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280B.

- Disconnect: SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280E.

- Disconnect: BJB (Battery Junction Box) Fuse 37 (10A).

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between ground and:
- SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280B-45, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side.

- SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280E-1, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side.

- BJB (Battery Junction Box) fuse 37 (10A), circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), input side.

Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to C4.

No
GO to C2.

C2 CHECK THE IGNITION RUN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: Ignition Switch C250.

- Measure the resistance between ignition switch C250-1, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side and:
- SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280B-45, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side.

- SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280E-1, circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), harness side.

- BJB (Battery Junction Box) fuse 37 (10A), circuit CDC34 (WH/OG), input side.

Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

Yes
VERIFY BJB (Battery Junction Box) fuse 37 (10A) is OK. If OK, GO to C3. If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation. Electrical Diagrams

No
REPAIR circuit CDC34 (WH/OG). TEST the system for normal operation.

C3 ISOLATE THE IGNITION SWITCH

- Carry out the ignition switch component test.

Is the ignition switch OK?

Yes
GO to C4.

No
INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to Ignition Switch . TEST the system for normal operation.

C4 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB (Smart Junction Box) OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: All SJB (Smart Junction Box) Connections.

- Check the SJB (Smart Junction Box) connections for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- spread terminals.

- Connect: All SJB (Smart Junction Box) Connections (make sure they are seated correctly).

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB (Smart Junction Box). REPEAT the self-test.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
