Diagnostic Routine F
Diagnostic Routine F
Diagnostic Overview
Diagnosing Radio Frequency Interference Faults
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
REFER to Radio Frequency Interference .
Visual Inspection and Diagnostic Pre-checks
- Inspect for customer electronic devices, such as a cell phone charger or GPS (Global Positioning System) unit.
- Inspect for aftermarket wheels or run-flat tires (tires with steel body cord plies in the tire sidewall).
Pinpoint Test
1. VIEW THE TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) PID (Parameter Identification) (TPMS_STAT)
1. Connect the scan tool.
2. Ignition ON.
3. Using a scan tool, view BCM (Body Control Module) PIDs (Parameter Identifications).
4. Monitor the BCM (Body Control Module) PID (Parameter Identification) TPMS_STAT.
Does the BCM (Body Control Module) PID (Parameter Identification) TPMS_STAT display SYSTEM FAULT?
2. CARRY OUT THE SENSOR TRAINING PROCEDURE
NOTE: Before beginning TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensor training, make sure the vehicle is away from other vehicles, or devices that might cause RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) such as electric motors, or radio transmitters.
1. Train all 4 TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors. REFER to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Intelligent Access (IA) Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT).
Did all of the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors transmit correctly and did the horn sound when each sensor transmitted to the BCM (Body Control Module)?
3. ATTEMPT TO CARRY OUT THE SENSOR TRAINING PROCEDURE AGAIN USING KNOWN GOOD SENSORS
1. Move the vehicle to rotate the wheels at least one-fourth of a turn. Leave the vehicle doors open.
2. Attempt to train known good TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors. REFER to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Intelligent Access (IA) Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Intelligent Access (IA) or REFER to Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor Training - Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT).
Did the known good TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors transmit correctly and did the horn sound when the known good TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors transmitted to the BCM (Body Control Module)?
4. CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION
1. Ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect and inspect all BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.
3. Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals- clean module pins).
- damaged or bent pins- install new terminals/pins.
- pushed-out pins- install new pins as necessary.
1. Reconnect the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
2. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
