C0051:54

Anti-Lock Control

Pinpoint Test E: DTCs C0051:28 and 54

Refer to Wiring Diagrams Set 42, Vehicle Dynamic Systems for schematic and connector information. Electrical Diagrams

Normal Operation

The ABS module receives steering angle information from the Steering Angle Sensor Module (SASM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). The ABS module compares this information against other inputs (lateral and longitudinal acceleration, roll and yaw rate) to determine if the SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) input is valid. The SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) must be calibrated any time a new SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) or ABS module is installed.

- DTC C0051:28 (Steering Wheel Position Sensor: Signal Bias Level Out Of Range / Zero Adjustment Failure)- If the ABS module receives steering angle information from the SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) that does not agree with the information received from other sensors (yaw rate, lateral acceleration), this DTC will set.

- DTC C0051:54 (Steering Wheel Position Sensor: Missing Calibration)- If the SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) is not calibrated, this DTC will set.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- ABS module

- SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module)

- SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) calibration

PINPOINT TEST E : DTCs C0051:28 AND 54

NOTE: Carry out a thorough inspection and verification before proceeding with the pinpoint test. Refer to Inspection and Verification. Inspection and Verification

E1 CHECK THE ABS MODULE DTCs

- Review the ABS module DTCs retrieved during Inspection and Verification.

Is DTC C0051:54 the only steering wheel position DTC present?

Yes
GO to E4.

No
GO to E2.

E2 VERIFY STEERING WHEEL POSITION

- Test drive the vehicle and monitor steering wheel position relative to the vehicle's direction of travel.

Is the steering wheel straight when the vehicle is driven straight ahead on a level surface?

Yes
GO to E4.

No
GO to E3.

E3 CHECK THE STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION

- Verify that the steering wheel connection is not bent or twisted and that the steering wheel has been correctly installed.

Is the steering wheel connection undamaged and has the steering wheel been correctly installed?

Yes
CHECK and ADJUST the front and rear toe as necessary. DRIVE the vehicle to VERIFY the repair.

No
REINSTALL or INSTALL new component(s) as necessary.

REFER to Lighting and Horns. DRIVE the vehicle to verify the repair.

E4 CALIBRATE THE SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module)

- Ignition ON.

- Connect the scan tool.

- Using a scan tool, clear all ABS module DTCs.

- Using a scan tool, carry out the IVD Initialization sequence.

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- ABS Module.

- Retrieve and record any ABS module DTCs.

Is DTC C0051:28 present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module). REFER to Steering Angle Sensor Module (SASM) . CLEAR the DTCs. CARRY OUT the steering angle sensor calibration. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by an incomplete SASM (Steering Angle Sensor Module) calibration.
