Pinpoint Test I: An Individual Button/Feature Is Inoperative From The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter

Normal Operation

Remote locking and unlocking of the doors and unlocking the cargo doors is accomplished by the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) receiving a command message from the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. The GEM (Generic Electronic Module) processes the command and energizes the appropriate relays to lock or unlock the doors.

The GEM (Generic Electronic Module) will disable the lock and unlock buttons if the ignition key is in any position other than OFF or LOCK. The rear cargo door unlock button works in any ignition position.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Cargo door lock

- Door locks

- RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter

PINPOINT TEST I : AN INDIVIDUAL BUTTON/FEATURE IS INOPERATIVE FROM THE RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) TRANSMITTER

I1 CHECK THE COMPLETE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) TRANSMITTER

- Press each button on the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter.

Is the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter completely inoperative?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test H. Pinpoint Test H: The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Is Inoperative

No
GO to I2.

I2 CHECK THE DOOR LOCK OPERATION

- Press the lock and unlock buttons on the interior door lock control switch.

Do the doors lock and unlock?

Yes
GO to I3.

No

I3 CHECK THE CARGO DOOR LOCK OPERATION

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: GEM (Generic Electronic Module) DataLogger.

- Select the GEM (Generic Electronic Module) PID (RELEASE) and active command the rear cargo door to unlock.

Does the cargo door unlock?

Yes
REPLACE the inoperative RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter. PROGRAM all RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitters. REFER to Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Programming . INFORM the customer that any RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitters not present need to be programmed. TEST the system for normal operation.
