Oil Pump Assembly






DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove retaining ring (211).

2. Remove pressure regulator and boost valve assemblies. Regulator spring is tightly compressed, use care when removing bushing.

3. Remove pump cover to body attaching bolts and the cover.

4. Mark relation of pump gears to body, then remove gears.

5. Remove straight pin and valve bore plug.

6. Remove oil seal ring and thrust washer.

INSPECTION
1. Inspect gear pockets, crescent, pump body face and bushing for scoring, nicks or wear.

2. Inspect oil passages for foreign material or debris, porosity, scored or irregular mating surfaces and cross channel leaks.

3. Inspect pump body bolt threads for damage.

4. Inspect oil seal and bushing for wear or damage.

5. Install pump gears in marked positions.

6. Measure clearance between gears and body, ensuring clearance is 0.0008-0.0035 inch.

7. Check pump body with straightedge to ensure flatness.

a. Inspect pump gear face for wear or scoring.

9. Check for stripped or damaged stator shaft splines.

10. Inspect bushings for wear or galling.

11. Inspect oil ring grooves for nicks,burrs or debris.

12. Inspect pressure regulator and boost regulator valves for free movement in bore, chips, burrs, distortion or plugged oil passages.

13. Ensure breather hole in pump cover is not blocked.

ASSEMBLY
1. Install drive and driven gears in mark positions, ensuring lugs on drive gear are flush with pump body.

2. Lubricate gears with transmission fluid.

3. Install pressure regulator valve into bore.

4. Install pressure regulator spring spacer(s), if equipped.

5. Install spring retainer washer and spring in pressure regulator bore.

6. Install regulator boost valve into boost valve bushing with stem out against spring.

7. Install valve retainer ring.

8. Install bore plug and straight pin.

9. Install pump cover on body and loosely install attaching bolts.

10. Install tool J-21368 or equivalent on pump assembly, then torque attaching bolts to 18 ft. lbs.

11. Using tool J-21359 or equivalent, install new square cut O-ring and oil seal.

12. Install selective thrust washer selected during "Front Endplay Check" during disassembly.

13. Install two oil seals.
