Reaction Internal Gear & Carrier Assembly Inspection

1. Inspect reaction internal gear and support for proper assembly, stripped splines, cracks and teeth or lug damage.
2. Inspect thrust bearing assemblies for damage.
3. Inspect lo and reverse clutch plates for wear, heat damage or delamination.
4. Inspect reaction carrier assembly for pinion gear damage, improper staking or damaged or worn thrust bearings.

5. Check reaction carrier assembly for excessive pinion washer wear, Fig. 31. Endplay should not exceed .008-.024 inch.

To check the captive thrust bearing in the carrier for wear, place a bushing or an output shaft sleeve on the bearing race (do not contact pinion gears) and turn it with the palm of your hand, Fig. 32.
