Models:

with 5.0L V8, 5.7L V8 TBI Engines (VINs H, K - RPOs L03, L05)
1996 Chevrolet and GMC G, P Models
with 5.7L V8 TBI Engines (VIN K - RPO L05)

Condition

Some owners may experience high temperature gauge readings.

Cause

Insufficient coolant flow from the left leg of the water pump.

Correction

To eliminate all other areas that may be suspect (such as coolant temperature sensors. gauge clusters, and electrical circuits, etc.) perform all diagnostics listed in the Service Manual. To aid in diagnostics, technicians may want to use instrument panel gauge testers such as Kent-Moore J-33431-C or J-24538-B. If the overheat condition persists, install a new water pump which optimizes coolant flow from both water pump legs.
