Engine - No Start or Extended Crank Time When Warm

Group Ref.: 6 - Engine

Bulletin No.: 476112

Date: June, 1994

SUBJECT:
HARD/NO START WITH WARM ENGINE (NEW INJECTION NOZZLES RELEASED)

MODELS:
1994 CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCK G VAN AND P MODELS WITH 6.5L DIESEL ENGINE (VIN Y - RPO L57)

CONDITION:

Some customers may experience no start or extended crank time with a warm engine.

CAUSE:

Some injection pumps may not produce enough pressure to open the injection nozzles, P/N 10233973, which will cause extended cranks and hard starts.

NOTE:
There are other causes for no start and prolonged crank time after hot soak such as high ambient temperatures and poor grade fuel, and other mechanical causes such as low compression. These should not be overlooked when troubleshooting for cause of hot hard/no start.

CORRECTION:

Verify which injection nozzles are in the engine by examining the injection nozzle part number and band color. If the engine has orange band injection nozzles, install the newly released nozzles currently used on 6.5L diesel engines (VIN P - RPO L49) which have purple bands.
