Interior Electrical Procedures

Note:
The driver's side front hinge pillar lower molding (front kick panel will need to be removed by gently pulling on the panels to release the retaining clips (reference 1996 Service Manual Section lOA4).

1. On the driver's (LH) side, locate the fuse block. Remove the temporary paper fuse block cover if present, and discard. Remove the 2, 25 AMP circuit breakers located at the lower portion of the fuse block. Replace with 25 AMP fuses.

2. Install a water shield cover on the back side of the fuse block. The water shield cover comes with a butyl adhesive. Remove the plastic protecting strip from the butyl adhesive and apply to the sheet metal just above the fuse block. The shield will drape down and cover the back portion of the fuse block.

3. Install the driver's side front hinge pillar lower molding (front kick panel). Align the panel and press to engage clips.

- For vehicles without remote keyless entry module and/or power door lock relay, proceed to "Exterior "1A" Pillar Sealing Procedures" listed.

- For vehicles with remote keyless entry module and/or power door lock relay, proceed to step 4.

4. The passenger's side front hinge pillar lower molding (front kick panel will need to be removed by gently pulling on the panels to release the retaining clips (reference 1996 Service Manual Section 10A4).

5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





6. On the passenger (RH) side, remove the Remote Keyless Entry module by removing the 2 retainers. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the module. Inspect the module connectors for potential water intrusion or corrosion. If either is evident, replace the module. Install the jumper harness to the Remote Keyless Entry module leaving a service loop at the module end, and attach the harness to the module with electrician's tape in 2 locations (Refer to Figure 1). Connect the electrical connectors to the main harness and install the Remote Keyless Entry module with the connectors pointing downward using 2 retainers.





7. Remove the power door lock relay by removing the retainer, discard retainer. Replace the power door lock relay. Reconnect the electrical connector. Apply the Velcro strip 1 in. X 1.5 in. to the back portion of the power door lock relay. Install the relay with the connector pointing downward to the body sheet metal. Make sure there is a service loop left in the harness (refer to Figure 2).

8. Install the passenger's side front hinge pillar lower molding (front kick panel). Align the panel and press to engage clips.

9. Connect the negative battery cable.

Important:
The Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter will need to be reprogrammed. To do so, ground pin cavity 8 (H) on the Data Link Connector. The receiver will respond by locking and unlocking all doors. Press any button on the transmitter to program, again, the receiver will respond by locking and unlocking all doors. Remove the ground applied to pin cavity 8 (H). Test the function of the transmitter pushing all buttons to verify operation of the transmitter.
