Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair






REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

^ Raise the vehicle.
^ Support the catalytic converter assembly.

1. Four oxygen sensor electrical connections and clips.








2. Nuts from muffler flange bolts.
3. Nuts from exhaust manifold studs.
4. Collars from exhaust manifold studs.
5. Catalytic converter pipe from the muffler.
6. Catalytic converter pipe from the exhaust manifolds.
^ Lower the front of the catalytic converter pipe.
7. Catalytic converter from hanger.

NOTE: Use care not to damage the oxygen sensors when removing the catalytic converter assembly.

8. Catalytic converter assembly from vehicle.
^ Rotate the assembly over the rear of the transmission crossmember.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTE: Use care not to damage the oxygen sensors when installing the catalytic converter assembly.





1. Catalytic converter assembly to hanger.
2. Seals and nuts onto the catalytic converter assembly and exhaust manifold studs.
^ Loosely assemble nuts onto the exhaust manifold studs.
3. Catalytic converter and gasket to muffler.
^ Loosely assemble nuts.








^ Tighten Converter assembly to exhaust manifold nuts to 24 Nm (18 lb. ft.) in the proper sequence.
^ Tighten Converter to muffler nuts to 40 Nm (30 lb. ft.).
4. Four oxygen sensor electrical connections and clips.
^ Remove the support from exhaust system assembly.
^ Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
