Heater Core: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the instrument panel.
2. Remove the air inlet grille panel.
3. Remove the underhood lamp, if equipped.
4. Remove the hood.
5. Remove the antenna.
6. Remove the VCM.
7. Drain the engine coolant.
8. Remove the coolant recovery reservoir.
9. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core.
10. Remove the right headlamp assembly.
11. Remove the outer fender.
12. Remove the battery.
13. Remove the battery tray.
14. Remove the wheel house panel.
15. Remove the A/C lines from the evaporator.
16. Remove the heater case heat shield.
17. Remove the heater case fasteners (inside the vehicle).
18. With an assistant inside, gently pry back on the heater case while removing the evaporator housing assembly in order to ensure the clearance of stud.
19. Remove the heater case.
20. Remove the heater assembly studs inside the engine bay.





21. Remove the heater box retaining screws.
22. Remove the heater box from the vehicle.





23. Remove the heater core access cover retaining screws.
24. Remove the heater core access cover.





24. Remove the heater core access cover.
25. Remove the heater core from the heater box.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the heater core to the heater box.





2. Install the heater core access cover.
3. Install the heater core access cover retaining screws.

Tighten
^ Tighten the screws to 1.9 Nm (17 lb in).





4. Install the heater box to the vehicle.
5. Install the heater box retaining screws.

Tighten
^ Tighten the screws to 4.5 Nm (40 lb in).

6. Install the heater assembly studs inside the engine bay.

Tighten
^ Tighten the studs to 4.5 Nm (40 lb in).

7. Install the heater case.
8. With an assistant inside, pull forward on the heater box in order to ensure the proper location of the evaporator core.
9. Install the heater case fasteners.

Tighten
^ Tighten the bolt and the stud to 4.5 Nm (40 lb in).

10. Install the evaporator housing mounting bolts.
11. Install the heater case heat shield.
12. Install the A/C lines to the evaporator.
13. Install the wheel house panel.
14. Install the battery tray.
15. Install the battery.
16. Install the outer fender.
17. Install the right headlamp assembly.
18. Install the heater hoses to the heater core.
19. Install the coolant recovery reservoir.
20. Install the engine coolant.
21. Install the VCM.
22. Install the antenna.
23. Install the hood.
24. Install the under hood lamp, if equipped.
25. Install the Air Inlet Grille Panel.
26. Install the instrument panel.
27. Inspect the system for leaks.
