Bearings and Spacers Cleaning and InspectionNotice: Do not allow the bearings to spin. Turn them slowly by hand. Spinning the bearings may damage the race and the rollers.
1. Clean all the bearing parts in a suitable solvent. Air dry all the parts.
2. Inspect the bearings and journals for roughness and unusual wear or damage.
3. Inspect the mainshaft bearing journals for wear.
4. Inspect the mainshaft speed gear bearings for wear.
5. Inspect the main drive gear pilot bearing rollers for wear.
6. Replace parts which show signs of excessive wear.
7. Do not file surfaces which have been hardened and precision ground.
8. Replace worn or damaged bearings.
9. Replace mated bearing parts when only one part is damaged.
10. Lubricate the bearings after inspection. Use Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid GM P/N United States 12346190, GM P/N Canada 10953477.
