DTC Descriptor
DTC P20CC
- Exhaust Aftertreatment Fuel Injector Performance

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The engine control module (ECM) supplies power and ground to the high and low control circuits of the exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector. The ECM monitors the exhaust gas temperature sensors to determine the exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector efficiency. If the ECM measures a difference of 300° C (540° F) between exhaust gas temperature sensor 1 and exhaust gas temperature sensor 2 or exhaust gas temperature sensor 3 and exhaust gas temperature sensor 4 when not in a regeneration mode this DTC may set.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* Engine speed is greater than 600 RPM.
* Exhaust temperature is greater than 300° C (572° F).
* Time since last completed regeneration is greater than 15 minutes.
* Time since last exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector nozzle cleaning request is greater than 5 minutes.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

* The temperature difference between exhaust gas temperature sensor 1 and exhaust gas temperature sensor 2 is greater than 300° C (540° F)
Or
* The temperature difference between exhaust gas temperature sensor 3 and exhaust gas temperature sensor 4 is greater than 300° C (540° F)
* One of the above conditions exists for more than 3 minutes.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* DTC P20CC is a Type A DTC.
* The ECM commands the engine to operate in the Reduced Engine Power mode
* The message center displays Reduced Engine Power

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P20CC is a Type A DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

* Skewed exhaust temperature sensors may cause this DTC to set.
* An exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector that is stuck open or leaking may cause this DTC to set.
* Contaminated fuel may cause this DTC to set.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Engine running, observe the following scan tool parameters:

* EGT Sensor 1
* EGT Sensor 2
* EGT Sensor 3
* EGT Sensor 4
Each parameter should be within 300° C (540° F) of each other.

2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Perform the scan tool cylinder balance test.

If the cylinder balance test results are erratic, refer to Engine Compression Test Testing and Inspection.

2. Remove the exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector outlet nozzle from the exhaust, connect a piece of hose to the exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector outlet nozzle and place the other end into a suitable container.
3. Engine running, verify the exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector does not leak any fuel into the container.

If fuel leaks into the container, replace the Q57 exhaust aftertreatment fuel injector. refer to indirect fuel injector replacement.
If no fuel leaks into the container, refer to Diagnostic Aids.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests after completing the diagnostic procedure.
