Thermostat: Service and Repair

Fig. 23 Thermostat Replacement:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect radiator hose from outlet pipe.
3. Remove outlet pipe to thermostat housing attaching bolts, Fig. 23.
4. Remove outlet pipe and gasket, then the thermostat from housing.
5. Install thermostat in housing, then the gasket, outlet pipe and outlet pipe attaching bolts. Torque bolts to 17 ft. lbs.
6. Fill cooling system, then connect battery cable.
