Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

Fuel Pump And Fuel Level Sending Unit:

1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
2. Drain fuel tank. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL TANK DRAINING.
3. Remove fuel tank. Refer to FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY.
4. Remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank assembly.
5. Inspect the fuel pump filter (sock) for evidence of dirt and contamination. If present, clean and check for presence of dirt in the fuel tank. If dirt is present in fuel tank, flush out fuel tank.

INSTALLATION

1. Install the fuel pump back into the fuel tank.

NOTE: Always use a new gasket when installing the fuel pump.

2. Install fuel tank assembly. Refer to FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY.
3. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
4. START vehicle and check for fuel leaks.
