Pick-Up Coil: Adjustments

MEASURE:

1. Remove the battery negative (-) cable.
2. Remove the distributor cap and rotor.
3. Measure the air gap between the signal rotor and the generator assembly using an appropriate NON magnetic thickness gauge. The signal rotor air gap should be 0.2 to 0.4 mm (0.008 to 0.016 in.). If the air gap is NOT within the specification adjust by using the adjustment procedure below.

ADJUSTMENT:

1. Remove the distributor. Refer to REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/DISTRIBUTOR ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT.
2. Loosen, but DO NOT completely remove, the screws securing the generator assembly.
3. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver or other suitable tool, move the generator until the signal rotor air gap is brought within specification.
4. Tighten the screws securing the generator and remeasure the signal rotor air gap. Repeat procedure if necessary.
5. Install the rotor and distributor cap to the distributor.
6. Install the distributor. Refer to REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/DISTRIBUTOR ASSEMBLY.
