Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

Service of the ECM consists of complete replacement of the ECM. There are no serviceable parts, such as a PROM or Mem-Cal to replace inside this ECM. If the ECM is determined to be faulty, it is then to be replaced as a complete assembly.

IMPORTANT:

When replacing the production ECM with a service ECM, it is important to transfer the broadcast code and production ECM number to the service ECM label. Please DO NOT record on the ECM cover. This will allow positive identification of the ECM parts throughout the service life of the vehicle.

REMOVAL:

1. Remove negative battery cable.
2. Remove two 10 mm nuts at ECM.
3. Disconnect ECM connectors.
4. Remove ECM from mounting bracket.
5. Remove ECM from drivers compartment.

INSTALLATION:

1. Install ECM in mounting bracket and connect connectors to ECM.
2. Install two 10 mm bolts and tighten to 2.2-3.4 N-m (17-30 lb. in.).
3. Connect negative battery cable.
