Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair

SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED (or equivalents)
^ J-37763, Wheel bearing socket.
^ J-37781, Front wheel hub remover.
^ J-37772, Front wheel hub bearing remover.
^ J-37777, Front wheel hub bearing installer.
^ J-37774, Front wheel hub installer.
^ J-2619-02, Slide hammer.
^ J-8092, Driver handle.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.
2. Locking hub assembly.
3. Brake caliper assembly, then suspend out of way.
4. Brake disc, then the bearing lock plate retaining screws and lock plate.
5. Using J-37763, remove wheel bearing lock nut and washer.
6. Wheel hub assembly. If assembly can not be removed by hand use hub remover J-37781 and slide hammer J-2619-02 or to remove.
7. Wheel bearing oil seal, then the bearing circlip.
8. Bearing outer race using J-37772 with J-8092 and a hammer.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Using J-8092 and J-37777, press fit bearing outer race until firmly seated in wheel hub.
2. Pack bearing with GM Bearing Lubricant P/N 1051344 or equivalent.
3. Bearing circlip, then the bearing oil seal using J-37774.
4. Fill oil seal recess and cover oil seal lip with P/N 1051344.
5. Wheel hub assembly onto spindle, then the spindle thrust washer.
6. Using J-37763 install wheel bearing nut and tighten to 210 Nm (155 lb ft).
7. Brake disc and caliper assembly. Torque caliper bolts to 88 Nm (65 lb ft).
8. Locking hub assembly and wheel.
