Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

LOCATIONS
The provisions for communicating with the Electronic Control Module (ECM) are the Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL) connector, the "DIAG SW" connector in the junction block and the "DIAGNOSTIC REQUEST" terminal in the duty check coupler.

Assembly Line Diagnostic Link
The ALDL connector is located under the instrument panel to the left of the steering column.

"DIAG SW" Connector
The "DIAG SW" connector is located in the junction block, and is also under the instrument panel to the left of the steering column.

"DIAGNOSTIC REQUEST" Terminal
The "DIAGNOSTIC REQUEST" terminal is located in the duty check coupler, and is in the left rear engine compartment near the strut tower.

NOTE: Codes stored in ECM memory can be read either through the "TECH 1" diagnostic computer/scanner (or equivalent) plugged into the ALDL connector OR by counting the flashes of the "CHECK ENGINE" indicator (or a test light) after grounding either the DIAG SW connector in the junction block or the diagnostic request terminal in the duty check coupler.
