Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation

Throttle Body Assembly - VIN 6:

Purpose:
The Throttle Position Switch (TS) detects the idle and wide open throttle valve opening.

Operation:
The Throttle Position Switch (TS) consists of 2 contact points (idle switch and wide open switch.
^ The throttle opening in the idle state is detected by means of the idle switch.
^ The wide open state is detected by the wide open switch.
By monitoring their "ON/OFF" signal, the ECM detects the throttle valve opening.
The ECM uses the "ON/OFF" signals from the TS as one of the signals to control:
^ Fuel Injectors
^ ISC Solenoid Valve
^ EGR Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) if equipped

Location:
The TPS is mounted to the throttle valve shaft on the throttle body.
