Valve Guide: Service and Repair

Valves and valve guides are available in standard size only. The Valve guide can be driven from cylinder bore using valve guide remover tool No. J-37968-1 or equivalent. The valve guide should be driven from the combustion chamber side of the cylinder head out through the valve spring side.
The cylinder head valve guide bore should be reamed with an 11 mm reamer prior to valve guide installation. Heat cylinder head to 176 to 212°F, then drive valve guide into cylinder head bore using valve guide remover tool No. J-37968-1 and valve guide installer No. J-37968-2. Valve guide should be driven in until tool contacts cylinder head. Valve guide protrusion should be .45 inch from cylinder head surface. After installation, ream valve guide with a 5.5 mm reamer.
