Differential: Service and Repair

NOTICE: The differential portion of the A131L 3-speed automatic transaxle is separated from the rest of the transaxle and must be drained and refilled separately. The differential portion cannot be drained by the transaxle drain plug or refilled through the fluid filler tube. If the differential portion is drained and not refilled as outlined in this procedure, damage to the differential due to lack of lubrication will result.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.





2. Place a drain pan or suitable container under the differential drain plug.
3. Differential filler plug from differential cover at rear of transaxle.
4. Differential drain plug from transaxle case under differential cover and drain transaxle fluid from differential.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Differential drain plug into transaxle case.
- Tighten differential drain plug to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.).
2. Refill differential with approximately 1.4 liters (1.5 qts.) of Dexron(R)-III Automatic Transmission Fluid GM P/N 12346143, or equivalent, into the differential filler plug hole. Fluid level should be even with the bottom of the differential filler plug hole.
3. Differential filler plug into differential cover at rear of Transaxle.
- Tighten differential filler plug to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.).
4. Remove drain pan from under the differential drain plug.
5. Lower vehicle.
