Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation

Shift Switch Position:

PURPOSE
Informs the ECM of transmission gear position.

LOCATION
On the transmission.

OPERATION
It turns "ON" when the select lever is in the park or neutral position. The ECM detects whether the transmission is in the park or neutral state, or in any other state through this "ON/OFF" signal. It is also used as one of the signals to control IAC solenoid valve and fuel injection time.
