Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Exhaust System Components:

WARNING: To avoid being burned, DO NOT touch the exhaust system when the system is hot. Any service should be performed when the system is cool.

REMOVAL
- Remove exhaust manifold heat shield (3 bolts).

- Remove forward pipe from exhaust manifold (3 bolts).

- Remove two bolts from catalytic converter support hanger.

- Remove two bolts at the rear of catalytic converter.

- Remove forward pipe and converter as a unit.

INSTALLATION
- Install forward pipe/catalytic converter unit, securing at converter support hanger.

- Connect converter to intermediate pipe, installing a new gasket.

- Tighten catalytic converter-to-support bolts to 17 lb. ft. (23 N-m).

- Tighten converter-to-intermediate pipe bolts to 37 lb. ft. (50 N-m).

- Connect forward pipe to exhaust manifold.

- Tighten forward pipe-to-manifold bolts to 37 lb. ft. (50 N-m).

- Install exhaust manifold heat shield.
