Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Remove shift control lever knob retaining screw and knob from shift lever.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Disconnect wiring harness couplers and transmission vacuum hoses.
4. Disconnect breather hose clamp and kick-down cable.
5. Remove starter and transmission to engine bolts.
6. Raise and support vehicle.
7. Drain oil from transfer case, then remove front and rear propeller shaft.
8. Remove select cable retaining nut and E-ring.
9. Remove select cable holding bracket, then disconnect oil cooler lines.
10. Remove torque converter housing lower plate.
11. Using tool No. 09927-56010 or equivalent, hold driveplate stationary and remove three driveplate retaining bolts.
12. Remove exhaust center pipe.
13. Remove engine to transmission retaining nuts.
14. Remove meter cable retaining nut, then disconnect cable.
15. Support transmission and remove rear crossmember retaining bolts.
16. Slide transmission off locating pins and lower transmission.
17. Reverse procedure to install.
