Planetary Gear Unit and Output Assembly

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Input sun gear bearing assembly (330), thrust washer (337) and planetary carrier assembly (338).
2. Upper reaction sun gear bearing assembly (401) located in case or on bottom of planetary carrier assembly.
3. Reaction sun gear and drum assembly (403).
4. Lower reaction sun gear bearing assembly (401) located in case or on bottom of reaction sun gear and drum assembly.
5. Low band (404).
- Note location.
6. Case vent (185), if necessary. If case vent is removed install a new vent.

Inspect
Low band (404) for:
- Cracks.
- Flaking.
- Heat damage.
Reaction sun gear and drum (403) for:
- Chipped teeth.
- Worn bushing.
- Scored drum.
Reverse clutch plates (232, 233, 234):
- Composition plates for damaged tangs, delamination or excessive wear.
- Steel plates for worn lugs or heat damage.
