REMOVAL
1. Relieve fuel pressure. See Powertrain Management.
2. Battery Cables-Remove Battery Tray.
3. Drain coolant system. See Cooling System.
4. Hood assembly. See Body and Frame.
5. Air cleaner assembly. See Powertrain Management.
6. Radiator with cooling fan. See Cooling System.
7. The following electrical connections: See Powertrain Management.
- Coolant temperature gage sensor connector.
- Throttle position sensor connector.
- EGR solenoid vacuum valve.
- EGR by-pass valve.
- Idle Speed Control (ISC) solenoid valve connector.
- Ground wires from intake manifold.
- Oxygen sensor connector.
- Fuel injector connector.
- Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor connector.
- Power steering (P/S) pump pressure switch (if equipped).
- Oil pressure switch connector.
- Generator connectors.
- Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor pressure switch (if equipped).
- Starter solenoid connectors.
- Backup lamp switch.
- Vehicle speed sensor connector.
- Negative (-) battery cable from transaxle.
- Direct (-) battery cable from transaxle.
- Direct clutch and second brake solenoids.
- All of the above are in one wiring harness. Release harness from clamps.
8. The following vacuum hoses:
- Front and rear canister purge hoses from intake manifold.
- Canister hose from canister pipe.
- Pressure sensor hose from intake.
- Brake booster hose from intake manifold.
- Idle speed control hose from throttle body.
9. The following cables:
- Accelerator cable from throttle body.
- Clutch cable from transaxle (manual transaxle equipped vehicles).
- Shift select cable and TV cable from transaxle (automatic transaxle equipped vehicles).
- Speedometer cable from transaxle.
10. Heater inlet and outlet hoses.
11. Fuel return hose and fuel feed hose from throttle body.
12. Install a Universal Support Fixture with an Engine Support Fixture Adapters.
13. Raise and suitably support vehicle. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
14. Two nuts and front pipe/catalytic converter assembly from resonator/center pipe.
15. Gearshift control shaft and extension rod from transaxle (manual transaxle equipped vehicles). See Transmission and Drivetrain.
16. Place a drain pan beneath engine oil pan to catch escaping engine oil.
17. Engine oil drain plug and gasket, allowing engine oil to drain.
18. Two bolts and front pipe/catalytic converter assembly from exhaust manifold.
19. Hanger supporting catalytic converter and remove front pipe/catalytic converter assembly from vehicle.
20. Drain transaxle fluid. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
21. Drive axles (left and right) from transaxle. For engine/transaxle removal, it is not necessary to remove drive axle from steering knuckle. See Steering and Suspension.
22. A/C compressor from compressor bracket with hose still attached. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
23. Disconnect P/S hoses from power steering pump (if equipped).
24. Torque rod (automatic transaxle equipped vehicles). See Steering and Suspension.
25. Lower vehicle.
26. Remove the Universal Support Fixture and Engine Support Fixture Adapters and install suitable engine lifting device.
27. Left (transaxle) mount.
28. Right side engine mount.
29. Rear engine mount.
30. Engine with transaxle from vehicle, ensuring clearance on all sides.
