Interlock Cable





REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Two screws and selector lever knob from selector lever.
2. Six screws and console from vehicle.
3. Manual selector cover illumination lamp bulb socket from cover.
4. Four screws and manual selector cover from selector lever.
5. Interlock cable end from key release plate on manual selector.





6. Interlock cable bolt.
7. Interlock cable From selector lever housing bracket.
8. Front carpet retainers and pull back front carpet.
9. Five screws, rapper and lower steering column covers.
10. Lower steering column. Refer to Steering and Suspension.





11. One screw and interlock cable retaining clamp from ignition switch.
12. Push release shaft in at ignition switch lock mechanism.
13. Cable end from ignition switch and interlock cable assembly from vehicle.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Interlock cable into vehicle and route up to ignition switch.
2. Push release shaft in at ignition switch and insert cable end.
3. Interlock cable retaining clamp to ignition switch; secure with one screw.
4. Reposition and secure steering column. Refer to Steering and Suspension.
5. Upper and lower steering column covers; secure with five screws.
6. Refit and position front carpet; secure with front carpet retainers.
7. Interlock cable to selector lever housing bracket.
8. Finger tighten interlock cable bolt.
9. Interlock cable end into key release plate.





Adjust
A. Move selector lever to "P" position and hold selector button in.
B. Rotate key release plate and insert a small screwdriver through the key release plate to hold it in position.
C. Allow the retaining spring to position the interlock cable into the bracket.

Tighten
- Interlock cable bolt to 13 N.m (115 lb. in.).

Important
- After tightening the interlock cable bolt, make sure with the shift selector lever shifted,to the "P" position, the ignition switch can be turned from "ACC" to "LOCK" position and the ignition key can be removed from the ignition switch. Verify also that with the shift selector lever in any position other than "P." the ignition switch CANNOT be turned from "ACC" to "LOCK" position.

10. Manual selector cover to selector lever; secure with four screws.
11. Manual selector cover illumination lamp bulb socket to cover.
12. Console into vehicle; secure-with six-screws.
13. Selector lever knob to selector lever; secure with two screws.
