Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Flushing

CAUTION: Use only Delco Supreme 11(r) Brake Fluid, GM P/N 1052535, or equivalent, DOT 3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed container. Do not use any fluid from a container which is wet with water. Do not use DOT 5 silicone brake fluid. Improper brake fluid, water or mineral oil in the fluid may cause the brake fluid to boil or the rubber components to deteriorate.

FLUSHING THE SYSTEM
It is recommended that the entire hydraulic system be thoroughly flushed with clean brake fluid. Approximately 0.95 liters (one quart) of fluid is required to flush the hydraulic system. When flushing the system use the steps specified in the Manual Bleeding procedures. Some of the reasons to flush the system are:

^ whenever new parts are installed in the hydraulic system.
^ if there is any doubt as to the grade of the fluid in the system.
^ if fluid has been used which contains the slightest trace of
^ petroleum based fluids. All rubber parts that have been subjected to a contaminated fluid must be replaced.
