Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Testing and Inspection



1. On 1973-77 Civic and 1975 Civic CVCC, squeeze lower end of drain tube to drain any oil or water which may have collected. On 1976 Civic CVCC and Accord, remove large drain tube from condensation chamber under air cleaner and drain any oil or water. Replace tube if necessary.

2. On 1973 Civic, make sure intake manifold T-joint is clear by inserting shank end of No.65 drill bit through both ends of joint. On 1974-79 Civic, make sure intake manifold fixed orifice is clear by inserting shank end of No. 65 drill bit through orifice. On 1975-79 Civic CVCC, 1976-79 Accord, and 1979 Prelude, disconnect breather hose from 4-way joint and insert shank end of No. 59 drill bit into 4-way joint fixed orifice to make sure it is clear, then reconnect hose to 4-way joint. Some 1979 Accord and Prelude models may have a 5-way joint. On all 1980-82 models, disconnect breather hose from carburetor insulator and clean fixed orifice by inserting shank end of No. 57 drill bit or blowing compressed air through it.

3. On 1975-79 Civic CVCC, all Accord models, and all Prelude models, remove condensation chamber from air cleaner and remove sludge or varnish build-up, then reinstall chamber.

4. Check hoses and tubes for tightness and deterioration and replace if necessary.
