Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Heat/Def & Vent/Def Solenoids

Fig. 3 Heat/Def & Vent/Def Solenoid Test:

1. Using a suitable ohmmeter, check for continuity between A and B, B and C, and C and A terminals, Fig. 3.

Fig. 4 Using Vacuum Pump To Test Heat/Def & Vent/Def Solenoid:

2. Connect a suitable vacuum pump to the solenoid and draw vacuum, Fig. 4. Solenoid should retain vacuum. If not, replace solenoid.
3. Connect a lead from the battery positive terminal to the B terminal of solenoid, then another lead from battery negative terminal to C terminal. Vacuum should drop to zero. If not, replace solenoid.
4. Connect the solenoid operating vacuum motor to solenoid, then the battery positive lead to B terminal and negative lead to A terminal of solenoid.
5. Draw vacuum. The solenoid vacuum motor arm should retract. If not, replace solenoid.
