Heater Core: Service and Repair

NOTE: The heater core can be removed without removing the heater assembly.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove lower dash trim panels, as needed, to gain access to heater housing.
3. Remove heater pipe cover and heater pipe clamp.
4. Remove heater core retaining plate, Fig. 15, pull cotter pins from pipe joint clamps, then separate heater pipes. Coolant will drain from heater core when pipes are disconnected. Place suitable container under pipe joints before separating heater pipes.

5. Withdraw heater core from housing Fig. 16..
6. Reverse procedure to install.
