To identify any engine by the manufacturer's code, follow the four steps designated by the numbered blocks.
(1) MODEL YEAR IDENTIFICATION:
10th character of V.I.N.

(2) ENGINE CODE LOCATION:
First 3 characters (1981-86) or 5 characters of engine number stamped on right top side of engine block or (1987-90) on decal by left hood hinge.
